Wim Tapley and The Cannons unveil “Persona,” the title track of their upcoming EP

ATHENS, Ga. July 25, 2023 – Wim Tapley is thrilled to release his newest single, “Persona,” on Friday, July 28. This will be the title track of Tapley’s EP, which is out Aug. 25. Following the success of his viral single “Sober,” this track signifies a step into a brand new recorded sound for the Cannons - one that represents the funk and jazz flare that fans throughout the Southeast know and love.

“We feel like we’re really giving people a taste of the sound that we’re playing live,” said Tapley when asked why “Persona” stands out to him, “it was so heavily shaped by our crowd in Athens.”

The feeling is mutual. “Persona” started gaining popularity among Tapley’s fanbase as soon as it was added to the band’s setlist, and has simultaneously become their favorite song to play, boasting rhythm-driven instrumentals that give the single a groovy feel.

Recorded at Racquet Recording with producer Patrick Doherty, “Persona” effortlessly transports us back to Tapley’s musical roots. The track was mixed by Ken Lasso, a native of Tapley’s home state of Virginia who also worked his magic on “Gut Punch” and “Sober.” Despite its varied influences, “Persona” remains a true product of the thriving music scene in Athens that has nurtured countless artists over the years.

“Persona” will be available on all streaming platforms Friday, and fans can catch Wim Tapley and the Cannons live at Classic City Jam, which will take place in Athens at Paloma Park on Aug. 26.
